ABOUT MUIRLANDS
Muirlands sits on the western flank of Mount Soledad, between the Village below and the top of the hill above. It was master-planned in the 1920s by the Muirlands Company on land assembled from John Muir's nephew, and it shows: the curving streets, generous lot sizes, and mature eucalyptus and Torrey pine canopy give Muirlands a parklike feel that's distinct from anywhere else in La Jolla.
Homes here are estate-scale — half-acre and acre lots are common — and most enjoy ocean views that stretch from La Jolla Shores north to Del Mar. The housing stock is a deliberate mix of original Spanish Revival and Mid-Century estates, thoughtfully updated traditionals, and a growing number of architect-designed contemporaries that take full advantage of the views. Muirlands consistently ranks among the most sought-after addresses on the West Coast.
It's a residential neighborhood first — quiet, established, and oriented around Muirlands Middle School and La Jolla Country Day. Buyers come here for the lots, the privacy, and the views, then drive five minutes down to the Village when they want a walkable evening.
